Systems Architect

System Architect

Location: Herndon, VA


The selected candidate will have primary responsibility to design and develop solutions to complex information security problems, system administration issues/network concerns, and perform system management and integration functions. The Systems Architect will create an architecture that aligns with security directives and provide technical and administrative direction for implementation and migration security requirements. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following Analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems to develop future technology and architectural advancements to support the Sponsors architectural strategy, technology migration, integration, and evolution from a security perspective. Review all infrastructure and hosting solutions in alignment with applicable security policies, standards, and practices. Serve as interface and assist the Sponsor with all security policies and guidance. Work with appropriate parties to resolve discrepancies between proposed IT systems and enterprise quality and security standards.

Mandatory Skills:

  1. Demonstrated on-the-job experience with enterprise security strategies, data governance practices, data stewardship principles, data standards, and metadata management best practices.
  2. Demonstrated on-the-job experience with Windows and Linux operating environment.  
  3. Demonstrated on-the-job experience with security concepts related to DNS, routing, authentication, VPN, proxy services and DDOS mitigation.
  4. Demonstrated on-the-job experience with IT design concepts and implementation.
  5. Demonstrated on-the-job experience with encryption methodologies, operating system patching, anti-virus software, and server virtualization.
  6. Demonstrated experience creating an infrastructure architecture designed to outline system hosting environments.

Optional Skills:

  1. Demonstrated on-the-job experience with full lifecycle software development methodologies such as Agile.
  2. Demonstrated on-the-job experience with the Sponsors security requirements as they relate to software development.
  3. Demonstrated on-the-job experience with open source products and tools such as Eclipse, Ant, JUnit, Apache or Tomcat.
  4. Certification in Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).


  1. Demonstrated on-the-job experience with Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) 503, the policy for information technology systems security risk management, certification and accreditation.
